NutriScan: Food & Nutrition — for Type 1 diabetes
Last updated: July 3, 2026
NutriScan helps people living with Type 1 diabetes count carbs, log glucose and insulin, learn how foods affect their blood sugar, and find food resources nearby. This policy explains what the app collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We collect only what the app needs to work, we never sell your personal information, and we never use your health data for advertising.
NutriScan: Food & Nutrition (“NutriScan,” “we,” “us”) is operated by Nuv Ahuja. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, you can reach us at support@getnutriscan.com.
NutriScan is intended for users 16 and older and is not directed to children under 13.
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password. Your password is never stored in plain text — it is converted into a secure, irreversible hash before it is saved.
NutriScan lets you record blood glucose readings, insulin doses, carbohydrate and meal logs, injection/infusion site and CGM sensor changes, and the settings in your profile (such as diabetes type, glucose units, target glucose range, insulin regimen, CGM source, and any medical notes you choose to add). We store this so the app can show your history, build your Food Playbook, and keep your data in sync across your devices.
With your permission, NutriScan reads blood glucose and activity data from Apple Health so the app can build your per-food glucose history and trends. You can grant or revoke this access at any time in iOS Settings → Health. See the dedicated section below for how this data is handled.
When you scan a meal, the photo you capture or upload — or the text description you type — is sent to our AI provider to estimate the food's nutritional content (calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat). The same applies to recipe requests in NutriScan Pro. These images and descriptions are processed to generate your results and are not used by us to identify you.
If you use the Care Center to find nearby food assistance and fresh-food resources, the app uses your device location (or a ZIP code you enter) to search for places near you. This location is sent to our maps provider to return nearby results. We use it to fulfill your search and do not store your precise location on our servers. Places you “save” for later are stored only on your device.
NutriScan offers an optional NutriScan Pro subscription. Purchases are processed by Apple, and subscription status is managed through our payments provider (RevenueCat). We receive your subscription status and related identifiers — not your payment card details, which are handled by Apple.
On the free tier, you can choose to watch a rewarded video ad to unlock a day of Pro features. These ads are served by Google AdMob, which may collect device and advertising identifiers and basic device information to deliver and measure ads. We use non-personalized ads.
Like most apps, our servers automatically receive basic technical information (such as connection data) needed to operate the service securely and reliably.
Your diabetes and health data is used only to provide the app's features. We never sell it, and we never use it — or any data obtained from Apple Health — for advertising or marketing.
Data obtained through Apple Health (HealthKit) is used solely to provide in-app functionality, such as your Food Playbook, glucose trends, and summaries. It is not used for advertising or marketing, is not sold, is not shared with third parties for those purposes, and is not used to train machine-learning models. You control this access through the iOS Health app.
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers that make the app function, and only as needed:
These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.
We keep your account, meal, and diabetes data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → account settings). Deleting your account removes your associated data — including your glucose, insulin, and meal logs — from our database. You may also contact us at support@getnutriscan.com to request deletion. Deleted data is removed from our active database immediately.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using reasonable safeguards.
You can review and update your profile information in the app, and delete your account and data at any time. You can revoke Apple Health access in iOS Settings → Health, and manage ad preferences through your device settings. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing (for example under GDPR/UK GDPR or CCPA/CPRA — note that we do not sell personal information). To exercise these rights, contact us at support@getnutriscan.com.
NutriScan is a logging and educational tool. Carbohydrate and nutrition values are AI-generated estimates and may be inaccurate. The app does not calculate, recommend, or adjust insulin doses and is not a medical device. Always confirm carb counts and all treatment decisions with your healthcare provider.
NutriScan is intended for users 16 and older and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be reflected here, and your continued use of the app means you accept the updated policy.
